Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen when we're moving. Walk & Talk Therapy offers the same evidence-based counselling you would receive in the office, but in the calming environment of the outdoors. Rather than sitting face-to-face, we walk side-by-side at a comfortable pace, creating a relaxed space where many people find it easier to reflect, process emotions, and talk openly.

I offer Walk & Talk Therapy throughout Strathmore and in surrounding communities within approximately a 30-minute drive.

What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walk & Talk Therapy is a counselling session conducted outdoors in a quiet public space such as a local park or pathway. Sessions integrate the therapeutic relationship with the benefits of gentle movement and time in nature.

Walking side-by-side can reduce the pressure of sitting across from a therapist and often helps conversations flow more naturally. Many clients report feeling more relaxed, less self-conscious, and better able to explore difficult thoughts and emotions while walking.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, grief, burnout, ADHD, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, Walk & Talk Therapy offers a different way to engage in counselling.

Why Choose Walk & Talk Therapy?

Many clients enjoy this approach because it can:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety through gentle movement
  • Encourage clearer thinking and problem-solving
  • Create a more relaxed and natural therapeutic environment
  • Feel less intimidating than a traditional therapy office
  • Promote mindfulness and connection with nature
  • Support emotional regulation while discussing difficult topics
  • Combine physical movement with meaningful psychological work

The focus is never on exercise. We walk at your pace, take breaks whenever needed, and can sit on a bench if that feels more comfortable.

Who Is It For?

Walk & Talk Therapy may be a good fit if you:

  • Enjoy spending time outdoors
  • Find it difficult to sit still during therapy
  • Feel uncomfortable with traditional office settings
  • Want to incorporate movement into your mental health care
  • Feel more comfortable talking while walking than maintaining direct eye contact

No special fitness level is required. Sessions are tailored to your comfort, mobility, and pace.

Where Do We Meet?

Sessions take place in carefully selected parks and walking paths throughout Strathmore and nearby communities within approximately a 30-minute drive. Locations are chosen for accessibility, safety, and privacy whenever possible.

Your meeting location will be confirmed before each appointment.

Confidentiality

Because Walk & Talk Therapy takes place in public spaces, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in the same way as an office appointment.

Before beginning outdoor sessions, we'll discuss the potential limits to privacy, including what we'd do if we encountered someone you know or another member of the public. Your comfort and confidentiality are always prioritized, and we'll choose quieter routes whenever possible. If you're discussing particularly sensitive topics, we may recommend meeting in the office or virtually instead.

What Happens if the Weather Is Bad?

Your safety and comfort always come first.

If weather conditions make an outdoor session unsafe or uncomfortable—including heavy rain, extreme heat, icy conditions, or poor air quality—we can:

  • Move the session to my office (when available)
  • Meet virtually
  • Reschedule to another suitable time

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this exercise?

No. The walk is gentle and conversational rather than fitness-focused. You set the pace.

Can we stop if I need to?

Absolutely. We can pause, sit on a bench, slow down, or finish the session while seated if needed.

Is Walk & Talk Therapy suitable for everyone?

Not always. During your initial appointment we'll discuss whether this format is appropriate for your goals, comfort level, and any physical or clinical considerations.

Do I need special equipment?

Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are usually all you need. Bringing a water bottle is recommended during warmer months.
